John McCain's first enemy target... the Beeb

22:53, 02 Aug 2008

For my American readers, you may not know about Mock the Week, its a BBC satirical show about the week's news, and nobody is safe (except Obama, who they described in terms of the second coming), and their favorite punching bag this week... John McCain. The topics of attack included

  • Apparently the best person the republicans could come up with was someone who was considered less competant than Bush
  • Getting shot down 5 times and sent to a prisoner of war camp doesn't make you a war hero, it just makes you a really rubbish pilot
  • Apparently due to his torture he can't raise his hands above his head... i hadn't heard this one before, but it was made heavy use of
  • His age and general likelyhood of dying of natural causes were also up for ridicule
    • Personally i do normally enjoy Mock the Week, and some of their points were valid, but the general level of jokes were pretty pathetic, and some in bad taste. That said, McCain deserves a thorough satirical roasting, this was a pale attempt at it. Still if McCain gets elected, i can just see the BBC being declared a terrorist organization...

The Storm Commeth...

21:10, 10 Jun 2008

Finally after days of waiting there seems to be a storm starting up over Troy, I couldn't get a good outside shot, so i went for the google earth weather view showing the storm.

I do know that its been coming in from the rest of america rather than forming here, but sounds better that its starting up over here. Image is a derivation of information from Google Earth, and Weather.com

Almost midnight....

Its almost midnight, and its still overly hot.

28 C at 11 o clock
If i go to the front of the apartment, its like an oven... i'm torn between turning the air conditioner off, and keeping it on... but i'll probably be environmental and turn it off.

Summer is here with a vengance

19:09, 08 Jun 2008

As anyone who's in troy has noticed, summer has arrived, late as usual, and on overdrive to make up for missed time. (Humidity 82%, 30-35C, less that 6mph winds)... However i took it as an excuse to wash my lovely car My shiny :)
Next time tho i may get them to do a whole works rather than a basic scrub, but its gonna rain with a vengance some time in the next week so that would seem a bit of a waste. So i got home after getting a few bits and pieces (no noro sock yarn as yet, most yarn stores round here seem to be closed on sundays) and turned on the air conditioner. Underpowered and overdraining
But because its only in the kitchen, and my apartment is huge and been heated all day, it did struggle a bit, so i ended up finding a creative use for my knitting needles and a fairly useless sheet.... Another use for knitting needles
So now the back rooms are segmented off with the sheet, so its a lot more survivable back here. Anyway, i hope in a little while it cools down...
